  1. CRYPT OF CTHULHU 24 - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. This fanzine was edited and produced by Robert Price under his "Cryptic Publications" imprint.

Everyone develops direction and momentum in life, and once going, changing direction becomes very difficult, almost impossible without something really drastic happening that is beyond one's control.

In 1949 I graduated from High School. The next day I woke up, a gawky teenager, to a stark realization; my childhood was over, playtime was over, my school days were over. After breakfast my parents expected me to go out and get a job! And that is when I, unknowingly, became a ball inside the Pinball Machine of Life; the hand of fate pulled back the knob and released me into a world that had no need of me.

I bumped into the shipping department at Weston Biscuit for a month and then I was bumped into the United States Army Air Force for almost four years. I then bumped into Dumont Labs for five years and would have stayed there but the company folded and that bumped me into the Curtiss Wright Corporation for five years. I would have stayed there but Curtiss also folded which sent me bumping into the Simmonds Precision company for ten years. And I would have stayed there but my department was eliminated, bumping me into … HOLD ON HERE !!!

I got so tired of being bumped around in this "electronics" pin ball machine, I decided to make this the final bump! However, with this decision I felt that awful apprehension I experienced back in 1949 when I first faced the challenge of getting a job in a world for which I felt woefully inadequate. - Only this time, fate, like the wizard in this drawing, conjured up a future for me in which I no longer had to work for a living, a world in which I could draw and paint for the rest of my life. I was free at last! No longer a ball in that pin-ball machine of life.
